During the excavation for the installation of a water main, contractors
for Plainfield Township encountered a large quantity of buried, crushed,
lead-acid battery casing fragments in the right-of-way adjacent to the
site. Plainfield Township contacted the Michigan Department of
Environmental Quality who oversaw the excavation, removal, and proper
disposal of the battery casings in the right-of-way and at 4407 Lovers
Lane.
