Coffee with a Cop: Exploring the Hyser Rivers Museum

Have you ever wondered what historical treasures are within the Hyser Rivers Museum? Deborah Havens, President of the Plainfield Grand Rogue Historical Society, shared a snapshot of the Hyser House’s history at last week’s "Coffee with a Cop" meetup.

Located at 6440 West River Drive NE right by Grand Rogue and Grand Isle Park, the Hyser House stands as a relic of Plainfield Village, a vibrant community that thrived in the mid-1800s where present-day West River and Northland drives meet. For the past 52 years, this historic home – the oldest still standing in the area – has served as a museum dedicated to the life of Dr. William Hyser— a Civil War hero and principle doctor and surgeon for Plainfield Village.

The house played many roles including that of a stagecoach stop, post office, and office of Township Clerk, Justice of the Peace, and school inspector.

Today, you can step inside to discover the rooms where Dr. Hyser lived and worked, and imagine a time when the Grand and Rogue Rivers were vital lifelines for the community.

The museum offers events and open houses where you can dive deeper into Plainfield's history. Want to learn more or arrange a presentation for your group? Reach out to the Plainfield Grand Rogue Historical Society at PlainfieldHistory@gmail.com or call 616.885.2961.
