Spring Update: Investing in Essential Infrastructure in Plainfield

This week, the Township Board held a Spring Infrastructure Workshop. During the workshop, the Township's engineering firm, Prein & Newhof, provided updates on several ongoing and upcoming projects designed to improve our water and wastewater systems, supporting the health, safety, and continued growth of our community. Read below to learn more:

Wastewater System Improvements

  • Saddle Ridge System: The Township is extending service to the Saddle Ridge area in Algoma Township, constructing a new pump station (a station that pumps wastewater uphill and over long distances) and force main that will bring the wastewater to our existing system. Completion is anticipated by October 2024.
  • Bell and Peak Lane Lift Stations: Renovation projects for both lift stations are underway as part of preventative maintenance efforts with the updates expected to be completed by June 2025.
  • Northland Lift Station Force Main Replacement: A comprehensive system overhaul is in the design phase and will include the reconstruction of Plainfield Service Drive in partnership with Kent County Road Commission. The project is expected to go out for bids soon.

Water System Improvements

Water Treatment Plant: Ongoing maintenance and improvement efforts across wells, clarifiers, floors, and other systems ensure the water treatment plant operates at peak efficiency. Preparations are underway for the high-demand water season starting in May. A significant upgrade, the installation of a larger generator, is planned for spring 2025.

Distribution System:

  • Water main upgrades within the Westgate neighborhood in Alpine Township, along Kuttshill Drive, and within the Northgate neighborhood are anticipated to be finished this summer, to enhance system efficiency and reliability of the system.
  • A significant project to rehabilitate an aging water main along West River Drive is underway. Construction is scheduled for this spring, with careful coordination to align with the Kent County Road Commission's (KCRC) West River Drive paving and MDOT's US131 project timelines.
