Plainfield Charter Township in 2008 received final approval of our Floodplain Mitigation Plan from the State of Michigan and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). This plan was the result of over a year of work by the Community Development Department and a committee drawn from public safety agencies, Kent County Road Commission, State of Michigan DEQ and local residents of the floodplain. You can download the Plan below, or stop by the Township offices for a copy. Starting in 2008, the Township has undertaken several projects as outlined in the Plan to improve Public Safety and Public Awareness through education, use of the Master Plan and zoning regulations, mitigation activities, and increased safety measures. The long term objectives will be to control development, promote education and reduce insurance costs in the flood-prone areas.
