The Friends of the Plainfield Library are continuing to recruit new members. The Friends strengthen the Libraries resources and services that are not funded through the tax supported budget. For a nominal yearly fee, Friends receive first-hand news of all upcoming programs and library expenditures. The monthly newsletter states current and future events and gives a synopsis of the monthly Friends meetings. Meetings are held the second Monday of the month at 1:30 PM in the Historical Room. All patrons of the Library are invited to attend these open meetings.

Membership pamphlets are available at the Library, or call (616) 647-3930, for further details, and a pamphlet will be mailed to you. New members are currently needed to keep the group going. With new members, new fund raising suggestions, new programs for children, teens and adults, we can continue to support our library with current materials and furnishings. For that nominal yearly fee, you could gain new friends, new programs, and a vote in how raised funds are spent.

In the past, Friends have provided funding for:

  1. Many children, youth and adult programs, such as Family Fun Night
  2. Speaker system in the community room
  3. Video security system for the Plainfield Branch
  4. Restoration of classic furniture pieces in the library
  5. Tables and chairs in the Community Room. And many other projects.

The Friends funds come primarily from membership dues, book nook, craft shows & annual used book sale. A gift to the Friends of The Plainfield Library is a unique way to honor or remember someone special. Your gift to the Friends is a thoughtful and special tribute to someone special while bringing enjoyment to the community for years to come.

When making a contribution, you can also designate how you would like it spent by suggesting subjects or titles. When a memorial book is purchased, a bookplate will be placed inside the cover with the name of the person being honored or remembered, and your name as the donor. The library staff will send an acknowledgement to the family of the honoree, with a copy to you. Your contribution helps the Friends support the Plainfield branch of the Kent District Library. Your gift may also be tax deductible.

If you are interested in making a donation to the Friends of the Plainfield Library, envelopes are available at the Plainfield Library. Please make checks payable to Friends of the Plainfield Library.
