Projects for 2011:
» Coit Avenue and Plainfield Ave
» Westgate Improvements
» Abrigador Trail, Bailey Park Drive,
and the Grand River Crossing (Jupiter Drive)
Contract No. 1 – Coit Avenue and Plainfield Avenue
Contractor: Caledonia Excavating
Start Date: April 11, 2011
Completion Date: August 12, 2011
Scope:
The installation of new water mains along Coit Ave from Plainfield Ave to
Jupiter Ave and along Plainfield Ave from Coit Ave to 5 Mile Rd will increase
the hydraulic performance of our entire water distribution system and provide
more reliability. The project consists of 4,200 lineal feet of 24-inch ductile
iron water main, 2,300 lineal feet of 20-inch water main and 230 lineal
feet of 12-inch water main.
The water main project will start at the Plainfield/Coit intersection
the week of April 11, 2011. The water main installation along Coit Ave will
be generally located approximately 10-15’ off the north edge of the road.
The water main installation along Plainfield Avenue will generally be located
approximately 15-30’ off the east edge of the road. There will be some traffic
disruptions during construction, but access to the properties located along
the construction route will be maintained. However, expect short periods
where driveways will be blocked due to the construction process. Emergency
vehicles will at all times have access to properties located within the
construction zone.
All properties located on the north side of Coit Ave or the east side
of Plainfield Ave that are currently connected to the water system will
be connected to the new water main. Connection to the new water main will
require a brief disruption in water service. Property owners will be notified
prior to the disruption of water service.

Contract No. 2 – Westgate Improvements
Contractor: Dykema Excavators, Inc.
Start Date: 5/1/11
Completion Date: 9/1/11
Scope:
Plainfield Township water distribution system serves the Westgate neighborhood
located in Alpine Township. Water main construction in the Westgate neighborhood
will impact approximately 400 residents. For this project approximately
9,100 lineal feet of 12-inch water main and 5,200 lineal feet of 8-inch
water main will be installed, improving reliability and fire protection.
Also, as part of this project, the properties on the nine streets listed
below will be converted to a higher pressure district.
|
• Bingham Ct., NW
• Bowdin Pines, NW
• Brandywyne Dr., NW
• Brookgate Dr., NW (south of Westshire Dr.)
• Kittery Dr., NW
|
• Lantern Dr., & Ct.
• Netherfield St.
• Stony Creek Ave, NW
• Westgate Dr., NW (south of Westshire Dr.)
• Westshire Dr., NW (between Shadowood & Brookgate)
|
This conversion will increase the water pressure by approximately 40
pounds per square inch (PSI). The typical pressure for the area will now
be approximately 80 to 100 PSI with the actual pressure varying from house
to house and may be more or less than the range given.
The contractor is anticipated to begin work in May 2011. All work is
scheduled to be completed by early September 2011. During construction there
will be road closures that will slow traffic through the project area. Detours
will be clearly marked and the contractor is required to coordinate any
required driveway closures to minimize residential inconvenience.
The water main will be installed 25 feet from the centerline of the roads
and will be about 5½ feet to 7 feet deep. Some trees and bushes in the right-of-way
will be removed. If you have a sprinkler system in the right-of-way that
is not permitted by the Kent County Road Commission, it may be removed during
construction and not replaced. Other structures and landscaping in the right-of-way
will not be replaced if deemed a traffic hazard by the Road Commission.
You should move anything you would like to save and relocate it outside
of the right-of-way before construction.
New water services and shut off valves will be installed to the property
line. There will be a short disruption in water service when these new lines
are connected. You will be notified prior to the disruption.
